Attakorn Sookjaeng

Attakorn Sookjaeng began his composition lessons with Dr. Daniel Eichenbaum and Dr. Brian Mills when he was a pre-college student at the College of Music, Mahidol University. During his undergraduate studies at Mahidol University, he had both composition and orchestration lessons with Atibhop Pataradetpisan and Valeriy Rizayev. He also had private music theory lessons with Dr. Jiradej Setabundhu.

Attakorn furthered his Master’s degree at Mahidol University where he studied music composition with Dr. Julia Lake Bozone. Afterwards, he earned a Doctor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado under the guidance of Dr. Paul Elwood.

In addition to the academic courses, Attakorn was also a member of Mahidol University Pop Orchestra (2008–2009) as a pianist. He participated in the musicals The Tale of Anazia (2009) and In-Chan (2010) as a pianist, and Cleopatra (2011) as a composer and arranger. He also performed in the World Saxophone Congress XV (2009) in Thailand and the Gala Concert of the Yamaha Australian National Band Championships (2010) in Hobart, Australia, as a clarinetist with the Mahidol Wind Symphony. In 2014, he performed The Art of Improvisation, coached by Ken Ueno, at the Thailand International Composition Festival as a clarinetist.

Attakorn was commissioned to compose Chai Mon-kon Kaa-Taa for choir and chamber orchestra for the project Lan Bodhi: Temple in the Cloud at Siam Paragon in 2012. He arranged music for the album Plum Blossom Vol. 2 (Plum Village songs for the practice of mindfulness) in 2013. His piece Remoteness was selected and performed in Fürth, Germany, as part of the Thai Vision Ambassador Competition by Stefanie Waegner (cello) and Pavarati Mani (piano).

In 2014, he received the Grand Prize from the Young Thai Artist Award Competition by SCG Foundation for his piece Bubbles of Time and had the opportunity to have a reading session of the same piece with Ensemble Mosaik (Germany) in 2015.

During his time in the USA, his music has been performed in several major events such as the 18th World Saxophone Congress (Croatia), the 2nd Asia Saxophone Congress (China), Open Space Music Festival (USA), ClarinetFest® 2021 Virtual (USA), and the North America Saxophone Alliance (USA).
