Ophat Taerattanachai

Ophat Taerattanachai is a composer and arranger whose musical journey began in 2006 during his time at Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, Thailand’s first science high school. Fascinated by classical music, he devoted himself to the study of music theory and composition through extensive listening and independent research.

He later graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from Chiang Mai University in 2012. During his studies, he was actively involved with the Chiang Mai University Chamber Orchestra (now the Chiang Mai University Symphony Orchestra), where he gained valuable experience in orchestration and arranging under the guidance of Tanut Vongsoontorn and fellow members of the orchestra.

In 2014, he began formal music studies at the Conservatory of Music, Rangsit University, where he studied composition with Prof. Wiboon Trakulhun and Asst. Prof. Boonrut Sirirattanapan. He completed his Master of Music degree in 2019.

Following his graduation, he served as a teaching assistant to Asst. Prof. Supachai Suriyut at Udon Thani Rajabhat University.

Ophat’s works focus primarily on contemporary classical music, with particular interest in exploring diverse styles and techniques. He frequently composes for solo piano, drawn to its expressive possibilities and versatility. His musical influences include Maurice Ravel, György Ligeti, Joe Hisaishi, Alexander Scriabin, Unsuk Chin, John Adams, Michel van der Aa, Takashi Yoshimatsu, and Christopher Cerrone, among others.
