Composed for the Bangkok Young Pianist’s Concerto Camp (BYPCC) 2025, Concertino for Piano and Chamber Orchestra is dedicated to two key founding members, Dr. Parinya and Dr. Nathinee Chucherdwatanasak, whose vision and commitment to young musicians inspired its creation.
Rooted in themes of Thai heritage and early memories, the Concertino reflects the playful innocence and nostalgia of youth. Motifs and patterns inspired by Thai folk music and childhood games are woven throughout the music, evoking a sense of warmth and recognition. Fragments of a central melody, drawn from the same source as Boonyong Katekong’s Shwedagon Tao, weave through all three movements. Inspired by his treatment and revelation of the theme, the Concertino reshapes the shared melody through the lens of the concerto form, gradually revealing it at the end, offering a moment of clarity—an echo of every inner child’s memory.
A celebration of musical storytelling and discovery, the Concertino invites young pianists and audiences to explore its musical puzzle, to piece together hidden motifs and uncover its secrets with curiosity and imagination.
